Software Review: ArtRage 2

20 04 2006

While searching for some lighter graphics package for basic graphics manipulation, I came across a package called Art Rage 2. It looked pretty cool so I downloaded it to have a play, and I'm impressed!

Basically its a painting simulator, but in reality it is so much more. It simulates realistic painting techniques using a variety of tools, and it is very realistic. You can adjust almost every setting imaginable, from the size of the brush, to the amount of paint on it, to the size and type of canvas material and so on.

There are a variety of tools, such as standard paint brush, wet and dry markers, crayons, air brushes and oils and so on.

There are also some useful tools such as the ability to include existing images to trace, or just to pin one up on your canvas to refer to whilst painting.

There is a limited free version available on the website for you to get a taste of the full potential of this package, and even then the full version is only $19.95 (approximately £11.55).

Here are some screenshots from the developer's website:

The software is available for both Mac OS X and Windows XP, so anyone can try it out. If you're into art at all, I recommend you give this a look, it's like real painting, but with a lot less mess!
